Sharjah: The ninth edition of the Women’s T20 World Cup will kick-start with a blockbuster match between hosts Bangladesh and debutants Scotland at the Sharjah Cricket Stadium today (October 3). Pakistan and Sri Lanka will also open their campaign in the second match of the day at the same venue in the evening. Ten teams will battle it out for the coveted trophy over the next two weeks with 23 matches leading up to the summit clash in Dubai on October 20, Sunday.
Bangladesh are the host of the tournament despite the shift in venue to the UAE. The 2024 edition was scheduled to be held in Bangladesh but due to the political unrest, the tournament was moved out of the country.
Nigar Sultana will lead the Bangla Tigresses with an aim to shrug off poor performances in the previous ICC events while Scotland are playing the World Cup for the first time.
Meanwhile, Pakistan have picked Fatima Sana as their skipper ahead of experienced Nida Dar. Their first assignment will be against Asia Cup champions Sri Lanka under the leadership of seasoned campaigner Chamari Athapaththu.
