The date commemorates the adoption of the 1966 ILO/UNESCO Recommendation about the Status of Teachers. It sets benchmarks regarding the teachers’ responsibilities and rights. Also, it laid out the standards for their initial preparation and further employment, education and teaching conditions. In 1997, the recommendation of the Higher-Education Teaching Personnel’s status was adopted to complement the 1966 Recommendation.
Since 1994, World Teachers’ Day has been observed. On this day, we celebrate how teachers are changing the landscape of education. The day also focuses on the support they need to fully utilise their talent and to rethink the profession’s future all over the world.
