World’s second-largest diamond found in Botswana: List of top 10 biggest diamonds in the world

New Delhi: The second-largest diamond ever found, weighing a whopping 2,492 carats, has been discovered in Botswana at the Karowe mine, owned by the Canadian company Lucara Diamond. This remarkable find is surpassed by the 3,106-carat Cullinan diamond, unearthed in South Africa in 1905. Nine separate stones were cut from it, many of which now adorn the British Crown Jewels.

Botswana’s government has confirmed that this newly discovered diamond is the largest ever found in this southern African state, further solidifying the region’s reputation as a significant player in the global diamond industry.

The Sewelô Diamond, weighing 1,758 carats, is now the third-largest rough diamond ever found. It was discovered in the Karowe mine in Botswana and is described as “near gem quality”. The diamond is covered in a thin layer of black carbon, giving it a unique sheen.

Lucara Diamond
