New Delhi: Gujarat Giants (GG) will be looking to bounce back to winning ways after their crushing defeat against Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) when they take on UP Warriorz (UPW) in match no.3 of the Women’s Premier League (WPL) 2025 at the Kotambi Stadium in Vadodara on Sunday, February 16. Giants lost their opening game against RCB by 6 wickets despite posting a huge total of 201 runs on the board.
Giants’ bowlers failed to complement the batters as RCB rode on cracking half-centuries from Ellyse Perry and Richa Ghosh to pull off the highest chase ever in WPL history with 9 balls to spare. Perry slammed 57 off 34 while Richa hammered a blistering knock of 64 runs off 27 balls to propel RCB to a thumping victory.
Skipper Ashleigh Gardner and Beth Monney slammed half-centuries apiece to power the Giants to their first 200-plus total in the WPL but their efforts went in vain as their bowling frailties were left exposed against RCB. GG will be hoping to put on a better show with the ball and improve their fielding as they look to bag their first win in WPL 2025.
India all-rounder Deepti Sharma will lead the UP Warriorz in the absence of Alyssa Healy, who has been ruled out of the tournament due to an injury. The Warriorz boast of a strong overseas contingent consisting of Grace Harris, Tahlia McGrath, Chamari Athapaththu and Sophie Ecclestone among others. UP Warriorz will be aiming to get off to a winning start with a victory against the Giants in their opener.
