New Delhi: As the Duleep Trophy 2024 has kickstarted, almost every Indian cricketer is taking part in the tournament in order to cement their spot in the Indian cricket team which is set to play a total of 10 Tests in the coming months. Yashasvi Jaiswal is one such cricketer who is looking forward to the “red-ball fun”, having already represented India in nine Tests since his debut.

Even the Buchi Babu Invitational Tournament, which concludes on September 11 is used by many players in the tune-up to the red-ball games that lie ahead for Team India. Jaiswal emphasised on consistency in the Test format as the two-Test home series against Bangladesh approaches. He has become a key Test player for India and scored 30 off 50 balls as the opener for his side India B against India A in Bengaluru on Thursday.

“It’s a great opportunity whenever we have the chance to play the Duleep or Ranji Trophy. I’m really looking forward to that, and I hope I’ll enjoy my game. I’ll try my best,” Jaiswal told JioCinema.

While looking at the ongoing campaign of Team India in the World Test Championship 2023-25 cycle, Jaiswal went on to reveal what motivates him the most and powers him to perform consistently. He said that every WTC game is crucial and one has to make sure to give their best because every win counts. “Any opportunity to play for India is incredible, and representing the country is the biggest motivation that I have,” Jaiswal said.

Jaiswal and his practice mantra

Talking about his preparation, he said that consistency is the key so as to improve his results. “I don’t overthink, I just need to prepare well and keep improving myself as a player. The more I repeat these steps, the better I’ll get,” Jaiswal stressed.

India will host Bangladesh, New Zealand, and England during the 2024-25 home season and will tour Australia for the five-Test Border Gavaskar Trophy in November. The Bangladesh Tests begin from September 19 in Chennai.

Speaking on Bangladesh’s performance, Jaiswal said that they have been playing well and that it will be fun to match up with them. “It’s fun to play Test matches regardless. I’m really looking forward to that,” Jaiswal said.
