New Delhi: India defeated Bangladesh by 6 wickets in the second match of the Champions Trophy 2025 at the Dubai International Stadium on Thursday, February 20. Chasing the target of 229 runs, The Men in Blue finished the job in 46.3 overs.
Shubman Gill played a gritty knock and scored an unbeaten 101 runs off 129 balls to guide India to victory. This was his 4th consecutive 50+ score, as the opener continued his brilliant form. He completed his hundred in 125 balls with the 9 boundaries and 2 maximums. KL Rahul also batted well and scored 41 runs in 47 balls, the wicketkeeper-batter also finished the match with a huge six through the leg side.
Rohit also played an aggressive knock in the powerplay and scored 41 runs off 36 balls. Shubman took his time in the middle and then upped his pace. Rishad bowled a great spell to trouble the Men in Blue by removing Virat and Axar. Mustafizur deceived Shreyas with a slower ball but Rahul and Shubman batted sensibly and forged an 87-run for the fifth wicket.
Shami shines with the ball
Mohammed Shami returned to his best form in the Champions Trophy opener. He bowled a stunning opening spell to trouble the Bangladeshi batter. Shami’s first wicket came in the opening over of the match when he removed Soumya Sarkar on a duck. Shami bowled at a very good pace and troubled the batter with his exceptional rhythm. Youngster Harshit Rana also contributed equally and dismissed Shanto in the opening spell.
After Shami and Rana reduced Bangladesh to 26/3 inside the first 7 overs of the powerplay, more misery awaited for the Bangla Tigers in Dubai as Axar Patel picked two consecutive wickets in the first over of his spell leaving Bangladesh reeling at 35/5. Axar would have completed his hat-trick as well if Rohit Sharma had been able to hold onto a simple catch in the first slip.
At one point, it looked like Bangladesh would be bowled out for less than 100 runs but Towhid Hridoy and Jaker Ali stitched a 154-run partnership for the sixth wicket and helped the team to post 229 runs target on the board which Rohit and Co. chased down in 46.3 overs. The Men in Blue will face arch-rivals Pakistan in their next match of the Champions Trophy 2025 at Dubai International Stadium.
