New Delhi: The Indian Premier League (IPL) auction 2025 is scheduled to take place on November 24 and 25 in Jeddah and all the ten franchises are buckling up and are into the scouting mode to go for their desired player during the auction. Chennai Super Kings (CSK) have cast their eyes on a 17-year-old opening batter, as per a Times of India report.
Ayush Mhatre, a promising youngster, made his first-class debut for Mumbai this season in the Irani Cup. He took on the Rest of India at Lucknow in the BCCI tournament. Having played five first-class matches so far, he has scored 321 runs at an average of 35.66 with a century and a fifty. Playing only his third first-class match, he smoked his top score of 176 against Maharashtra at the MCA ground in BKC in the ongoing season of Ranji Trophy.
The report also states that the teenager has left CSK’s former skipper MS Dhoni impressed and the talent scouts of the team as well. CSK have already asked Mhatre to report for the selection trials during his six-day break between Ranji’s fifth round which ends on November 16 and the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy which kicks off on November 23.
Mhatre is also named in the probables Mumbai squad of 28 members for the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy. The report also clarifies that an email has already been sent to the MCA secretary Abhay Hadap on October 24, in which CSK MD & CEO Kasi Viswanathan has asked the association to grant the youngster permission to attend the selection trials of CSK at franchise’s training centre in Navalur.
CSK retentions for IPL 2025
All the franchises recently announced their list of retained and released players ahead of the IPL 2025 mega-auction. CSK opted to retain their five stars – Ruturaj Gaikwad (Rs. 18 crore), Matheesha Pathirana (Rs. 13 crore), Shivam Dube (Rs. 12 crore), Ravindra Jadeja (Rs. 18 crore), and MS Dhoni (Rs. 4 crore), who will be playing as an uncapped player. They have remaining purse value of Rs. 55 crores to bid in the upcoming mega-auction.
