2 in 2! Renuka Singh rattles Australia with wickets on consecutive deliveries – WATCH

New Delhi: Renuka Singh Thakur got India off to a perfect start with the ball in their all-important clash against Australia in the Women’s T20 World Cup 2024 on Sunday, October 13. Renuka struck twice on successive deliveries with the new ball to rattle Australia early in their innings after stand-in skipper Tahlia McGrath won the toss and opted to bat first in Sharjah.

In the absence of regular skipper Alyssa Healy, Grace Harris opened the batting for Australia with Beth Mooney against India. The duo got off to a steady start before Renuka drew the first blood for India in the 3rd over by dismissing Mooney cheaply on just 2 runs off 7 balls.

Mooney was caught by Radha Yadav after a mistimed shot as she departed after failing to make an impact. Renuka made it two wickets in two balls as she managed to trap Georgia Wareham plumb in front on the next delivery. It was an inswinger from Renuka which comfortably beat Wareham to strike her on the pads.

While the on-field umpire took her time to raise the finger, Wareham decided not to review the decision knowing that she caught plumb. The twin wickets left Australia in tatters and helped India get in the driver’s seat early in the must-win game against the defending champions.

Harris, McGrath steady the ship for Australia

Haris combined with stand-in skipper McGrath to steady the ship for Australia after they lost two wickets on successive deliveries in the 3rd over. Haris and McGrath combined to share an important stand of 62 runs for the third wicket to bring Australia’s innings back on track after losing quick wickets in the Powerplay.

Their partnership was broken by spinner Radha Yadav, who struck in her very first over by dismissing McGrath on 32 off 26 balls. Harris was not out on 32 at the time of McGrath’s departure and will be hoping to guide Australia to a big total in the crucial clash.
