20-year-old student from Delhi arrested for hacking Telangana police apps TSCOP, Hawkeye

Hyderabad: A 20-year-old student from Delhi was arrested on Sunday after he hacked two apps related to Telangana Police, Hawkeye and TSCOP and posted the details on a data breach forum offering the hacked data for a price of $150.

The accused identified as Jatin Kumar, is a student in Noida and originally hails from Jhansi in Uttar Pradesh.

Telangana Cyber Security Bureau officers travelled to Delhi to arrest the accused. Soon after a case was registered against the hacker, TGCSB swung into action and using advanced tools and technology, identified and arrested the hacker.

He reportedly put out his Telegram ID for buyers interested in contacting him regarding the Hawkeye, TSCOP app. The arrested hacker reportedly has a history of cybercrimes, having been arrested for similar hacking activity by Special Cell Dwaraka Police, New Delhi.

Police refutes selling data to third party:

The hacked Hawkeye data includes SOS calls from women, names, emails, phone numbers and other sensitive data of about 2 lakh users.

Speaking about TSCOP app hack, the police said that the app was only used for internal use of Telangana police, to mainly provide instant information, in-house tasks and there was no collection of financial or confidential user data. “It is a fact that TSCOP app doesn’t record hotel management data or any visitor data. There is no question of selling this data to any third party,” a statement read.

This was in response to allegations that Telangana Police has collected data of everyone who checks into a hotel in Hyderabad and sent it to a block chain company named Zebichain.

After investigating the data breach incident, Telangana police have also initiated comprehensive monitoring, vulnerability assessments and penetration testing across all external and internal police networks, we b and mobile apps, to identify any security weakness and address the issues, to prevent future breaches.
