Hyderabad: Childless couples, who bought children from human traffickers handed over the children to women and child welfare officials through police on Tuesday, May 28.
Many couples were seen pleading with officials to not take children away from them at the Rachakonda Police Commissionerate in Neredmet, Hyderabad. The couples said that they grew very attached to the children.
On Tuesday, 11 people from Andhra Pradesh and Telangana were arrested for trafficking children from Delhi and Pune and rescued at least 16 children.
One couple who bought a child from the traffickers said, “We have been married for almost 10 years. We had everything but not a child. This girl came into our lives as a hope. Now its gone.”
A woman who lost her husband said that she has no purpose in life as she lost both her husband and child one after the other. Another couple said that they felt humiliated for not being able to have children. “This boy brought us happiness,” they said.
Those who came to the commissionerate to handover the children were from BHEL, Peerzadiguda, Cherlapally, Gachibowli, Suryapet districts. The list also included people from Srikakulam, Vijayawada, Guntur from Andhra Pradesh.
The police say that they will take legal action against the parents who bought children illegally.
