New Delhi: Bollywood actor Imran Khan has been grabbing headlines for quite a while now. While his fans cannot wait to see him in another cheesy rom-com, the Katti Batti star opened up about his divorce from his ex-wife Avantika Malik. Speculations of Imran’s divorce emerged back in 2019. However, the actor ended all the rumours last year and revealed that he had separated from Avantika.
1. ‘I was dealing with all of this baggage and my internal struggle’
Now, in a new interview, Imran has revealed why he parted ways with his ex-wife. Speaking to India Today, the 41-year-old actor added, “Without going too much into that part, because I’m hesitant to add a lot of fuel to the gossip fire, but as I was dealing with all of this baggage and my internal struggle, I did find that my marriage and my relationship were not helping any of that.”
2. ‘We were not in that place’
Imran also revealed that he was not in the same place as his ex-wife Avantika when it came to supporting each other. “In an ideal, healthy dynamic between two people, you are both making each other better, healthier, stronger, and supporting each other to be the healthiest, best, strongest version. We were not in that place,” he added.
3. ‘I’m divorced and have been separated’
Last year, Imran confirmed his divorce from Avantika and also revealed that he was dating Lekha Washington. He further slammed those who called Lekha a homewrecker and said, “The speculation that I’m romantically involved with Lekha Washington is true. I’m divorced and have been separated since February 2019.”
“There’s this narrative of Lekha being a homewrecker, which infuriates me because not only is it misogynistic but it also takes away my agency as an individual,” he said in an interview with Vogue Magazine in March.
How did Imran Khan meet Lekha Washington?
Imran revealed in an interview that he met Lekha during the COVID-19 lockdown. He said that he had already separated from Avantika at that time. The Gori Tere Pyaar Mein actor also revealed that they started dating a year after the Tamil actress had separated from her husband.
