New Delhi: Chennai Super Kings (CSK) youngster Ayush Mhatre continued his impressive run in his side’s clash against Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) with a 25-ball fifty at the Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru on Saturday, May 03. It was Mhatre’s maiden IPL fifty as he took senior pacer Bhuvneshwar Kumar to the cleaners en route to his half-century, smashing him for 26 runs in an over.
After Romario Shepherd slammed a quickfire 14-ball 53 for RCB, including 33 runs in a single over against Khaleel Ahmed, Mhatre exacted revenge for CSK with a stunning assault against Bhuvneshwar in the Powerplay. The 17-year-old went after the senior pacer in the 4th over of CSK’s 214-run chase, smashing him all around the park.
Mhatre started the over from Bhuvneshwar with a four off the first ball as he lofted a slower ball from the pacer wide of mid off for a boundary. He smashed a half volley from Bhuvneshwar next for a boundary before completing a hat-trick of fours with another boundary on the next ball. There was no stopping Mhatre as he got into the groove with three back-to-back fours.
Mhatre dispatched the next one over long off for a huge six before ending the over with two more boundaries to get 26 runs from the over. It was a stunning onslaught from the 17-year-old, who was roped in by CSK as a replacement for their injured captain Ruturaj Gaikwad. Mhatre went on to complete his fifty off just 25 balls in the 9th over.

Ayush Mhatre 3rd youngest Indian to hit fifty in IPL
CSK youngster Mhatre became the third youngest Indian batter to hit a fifty in the IPL with his terrific knock against RCB on Saturday. At 17 years and 291 days, he stands only behind Riyan Parag and Rajasthan Royals (RR) sensation Vaibhav Suryavanshi on the elite list of youngest batters to hit a fifty in the IPL.
Youngest half-centurions in the IPL:
14y 32d – Vaibhav Suryavanshi (RR) vs GT, 2025
17y 175d – Riyan Parag (RR) vs DC, 2019
17y 291d – Ayush Mhatre (CSK) vs RCB, 2025*
CSK are already out of the race for the playoffs in the ongoing IPL 2025, but will be looking to beat RCB to complete their revenge for the loss in their first meeting earlier this season at Chepauk. Mhatre’s half-century has set the stage for a successful chase for the Men in Yellow, but they will need others to step up if they are to chase down 214 runs in 20 overs to win the game.
