New Delhi: New Zealand defeated Papua New Guinea (PNG) by 7 wickets in their last match of the T20 World Cup 2024 at Brian Lara Stadium in Trinidad on June 17. Fast bowler Lockie Ferguson bowled a brilliant spell in the match and ensured they ended the World Cup with a remarkable win.
Ferguson was introduced in the fifth over of the match by captain Kane Willaimson and he started his spell with a wicket-maiden over. He got the wicket of PNG skipper Assad Vala. Ferguson bowled six straight dot balls to Sese Bau in his second over. The right-arm pacer returned to bowl his third in the 12th over and took the wicket of Charles Amini.
He conceded 0 runs off his third over to make it three maidens in a row. He dismissed Chad Sopar in his last over of the spell and became the first pacer in the history of T20 World Cup to concede 0 runs in his four overs, this was also the most economical spell in the tournament.
