4,4,4,6! Jake Fraser-McGurk takes Shaheen Afridi to cleaners in AUS vs PAK 2nd T20I

New Delhi: Australian opener Jake Fraser-McGurk took star Pakistan bowler Shaheen Afridi to cleaners during the second T20 International match between the two teams played at the Sydney Cricket Ground on Saturday. After Australian captain Josh Inglis won the toss, Fraser McGurk started with explosive hit to score 21 runs in the first over.

Mathhew Short picked up three runs on the first ball of the innings. Fraser-McGurk missed the drive on his first attempt to smack Afridi as a result for a dot ball. But the next four balls were a treat for the spectators to watch as the Victorian player hammered 4, 4, 4, 6.

He hit over the umpire and bowler’s head for a boundary with  a straight bat to start the onslaught. The next ball was carved over the covers while Fraser-McGurk cleared his front leg. He was dropped by Naseem Shah at third man before the ball touched the fence for third boundary in a row. The final delivery was dispatched over long-on for a six as the hosts made a rollicking start. The 21-run over in the first over is the joint-most by Australia in T20Is.

Jake Fraser-McGurk only added two more runs to his innings after the blitzkrieg in the Shaheen Afridi over. He was dismissed by Haris Rauf in the fourth over while attempting an over-the-head shot without much control on it. Salman Ali Agha took a comfortable catch at the extra cover to complete the wicket.

Shaheen Afridi drops Marcus Stoinis

It was a collective sloppiness in the field shown by Pakistan fielders in the second T20I. It was Shaheen Afridi’s dropped opportunity that cost left-arm spinner Sufiyan Muqeem his first wicket. Marcus Stoinis attempted to play a reverse-sweep against the spinner, but miscued the shot. Although Afridi put dive in a bid to take the catch, the ball couldn’t hold in the hands of the left-arm quick.
