The day that the Union Cabinet approved 8 National High-Speed Road Corridor Projects with a length of 936 km at a total cost of Rs. 50,655 crore, PM Narendra Modi took to X and hailed the move with this post, “TRANSFORMATIVE boost to India’s infrastructure landscape! The Cabinet’s approval of 8 National High-Speed Road Corridor Projects at an expenditure of over Rs. 50,000 crore will have a MULTIPLIER EFFECT on our economic GROWTH and boost EMPLOYMENT opportunities.” PM Modi added, “It also underlines our commitment to a futuristic and connected India.”
These projects are expected to meet current and future demands of the country in general and these regions in particular.

These 8 National High-Speed Road Corridor Projects include:
1. 6-lane Agra-Gwalior National High-Speed Corridor
2. 4-lane Kharagpur-Moregram National High-Speed Corridor
3. 6-lane Tharad-Deesa-Mehsana-Ahhmedabad National High Speed Corridor
4. 4-lane Ayodhya Ring Road
5. 4-lane section between Pathalgaon and Gumla of Raipur-Ranchi National High Speed Corridor
6. 6-lane Kanpur Ring Road
7. 4-lane Northern Guwahati Bypass and Widening/Improvement of existing Guwahati bypass
8. 8-lane NashikPhata-Khed Corridor near Pune
These projects are intended to improve logistics efficiency, reduce congestion and enhance connectivity across the country. These projects are designed to improve the connectivity to these regions and will benefit not just the industries in these areas but also help improve access for tourists.
The PIB infographics that accompanied PM Modi’s post listed the benefits that will accrue to the country. These include:
1. Travel time between Agra and Gwalior will be reduced by 50%
2. Kharagpur-Moregram corridor to transform the economy of West Bengal and North-East
3. Highway networks around Kanpur to be decongested by Kanpur Ring Road
4. Growth of Jharkhand and Chattisgarh to be unlocked through completion of Raipur Ranchi Corridor
5. New Corridor between Tharad and Ahmedabad to complete the High Speed Road Network in Gujarat for seamless port connectivity and reduced logistics cost.
6. Guwahati ring road to facilitate unhindered access to North-East
7. Travelling to Ayodhya to be much faster
8. 8-lane elevated flyover corridor section between Pune and Nashik to eliminate logistics nightmare
9. Projects to generate an estimated 4.42 crore man days of direct and indirect employment.
Estimated cost of these 8 projects
The Ayodhya project itself is expected to cost Rs 3935 crore. It will reduce congestion on National Highways around the city, thereby clearing a direct and quicker path for devotees visiting the Rama Mandir.
The 231-km long four-lane high-speed corridor in West Bengal will be built between Kharagpur-Moregram. The project is expected to cost Rs 10,247 crore. Expectations are that it will reduce traffic burden on the existing 2-lane National Highway. It will also improve inter-state connectivity between West Bengal, Odisha, Andhra Pradesh and North-East.
The Agra-Gwalior national high-speed corridor will cost Rs 4,613 crore and will improve connectivity to tourist destinations in Uttar Pradesh like the Taj Mahal and in Madhya Pradesh for example, Gwalior Fort.
The Tharad-Deesa National High-Speed Corridor will be some 214-km long and cost Rs 10,534 crore.
The Pathalgaon and Gumla of Raipur-Ranchi corridor will cost Rs 4,473 crore and it is meant to improve connectivity between mining regions in Gumla, Lohardaga, Raigarh, Korba and Dhanbad with industrial in Raipur, Durg, Korba, Bilaspur, Bokaro, and Dhanbad.
The Kanpur Ring Road will cost Rs 3,298 crore stretch for 47-km long.
The Northern Guwahati bypass and widening of existing Guwahati Bypass will cost Rs 5,729 crore.
The Nashik Phata-Khed Corridor will cost Rs 7,827 crore.
The 8 National High-Speed Corridor projects are designed to improve connectivity and benefit not just the industries in these areas but also help improve access for tourists.
