New Delhi: Former Indian cricketer Virender Sehwag’s son, Aaryavir, announced his entry in the cricketing world in style on Thursday after smashing an explosive double century in the ongoing Cooch Behar Trophy in Shillong. The event is a four-day national cricket tournament for under-19 players held annually by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI).
Aaryavir, who represents Delhi, displayed some glimpses of his father, who was considered to be one of the most explosive players in world cricket. Meanwhile, opting to bat first on Wednesday, Meghalaya scored a total of 260 runs in the first innings. In reply on the second day on Thursday, Delhi managed to take a huge lead of 208 runs for the loss of just two wickets when stumps were called.
Aaryavir sizzles for Delhi
Aaryavir along with Arnav S Bugga joined hands for a mammoth 180-run opening stand which laid the perfect foundation for Delhi to dominate in the contest. Bugga also smashed a double ton before getting out but junior Sehwag continued with his sensational shots completing a sizzling double century. At stumps, Aaryavir was unbeaten on 200 off 229 balls, an innimgs laced with 34 boundaries and two massive maximums.
Delhi were at 48 for 2 with Dhanya Nakra as the other unbeaten batter on the crease with a score of 98 in 91 balls. Earlier in last month, Aaryavir made his debut in the Vinoo Mankad Trophy, scoring 49 runs against Manipur to power Delhi to a 6-wicket victory. Couple of years ago in an interview, Virender Sehwag had revealed that his son is trying hard to make a mark in the cricketing world. He further said that Aaryavir was quite impressed with the IPL and wishes to play for the franchise.
