New Delhi: Young Australian opener Sam Konstas recently revealed details of his heartwarming interaction with Team India star Virat Kohli after the tussle between the duo during the 4th Test between India and Australia in the recently concluded Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2024-25. Konstas and Kohli had a heated moment on the field during Australia’s first innings in the 4th Test.
Konstas revealed he had a surprise interaction with his childhood idol Kohli post the game and there was no bad blood between them. Konstas made his Test debut for Australia in the Boxing Day Test in Melbourne and slammed a brilliant knock of 60 runs. The 19-year-old went all out against India’s pace spearhead Jasprit Bumrah and impressed with his heroics against the in-form pacer.
However, despite the game being a charged affair and several heated moments between him and Indian players, Konstas revealed how Kohli was very down to earth when he met him and wished him luck for his future. The talented Australian opener said he has idolised the star India batter since childhood and it was a lovely moment for him to interact with Kohli.
“I had a little chat after the game telling him that I idolise him, and it’s obviously a huge honour playing against him,” Konstas told News Corp.
“He just had that presence about him…[and] he was very down to earth. A lovely person, just wishing me all the best. I’ve idolised him from a young age and he’s a legend of the game,” he added.

Hailing him as a legend of the game, Konstas also revealed how Kohli wished him luck for Australia’s upcoming tour of Sri Lanka. While India’s WTC 2023-25 campaign ended with their 3-1 defeat at the hands of Australia in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy, the Aussies still have a series left to play in the ongoing cycle. Australia will travel to Sri Lanka for a two-match Test series and will hope to continue their stellar run.
“He was very kind and wished me all the best. He even said he hoped I did well if I got selected for the Sri Lanka series. My whole family loves Virat, and he has been my idol from a young age. He’s truly a legend of the game,” said Konstas, opening up about his interaction with Kohli.
