New Delhi: Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB)’s Director of Cricket Mo Bobat opened up on the chances of Virat Kohli taking over captaincy once again in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 and revealed the star batter texted his feedback after Day 1 of the ongoing IPL 2025 mega auction. Bobat revealed Kohli was part of the planning for the auction and gave his insight about the players.
RCB were patient at the IPL 2025 mega auction on Day 1 as they refrained from going after several big names despite having a strong purse. RCB were heavily linked with a move for KL Rahul but didn’t showcase any interest in securing the services of the local lad. RCB went after their targets and managed to buy the likes of Phil Salt, Liam Livingstone and Josh Hazlewood on Day 1.
They spent big on Hazlewood by splurging out Rs 12.50 crore to buy the Australian pacer before buying explosive England opener Salt for Rs 11.50 crore. RCB also spent huge money on Indian wicket-keeper batter Jitesh Sharma, who was signed by the franchise for Rs 11 crore.
Speaking about their auction strategy, Boat revealed on Monday that they received feedback from Kohli regarding their buys on Day 1 of the IPL 2025 mega auction. He also revealed there has been no decision made yet on captaincy and that the announcement will be made later.
“Virat sent a few text messages on his feedback after Day 1 of the auction. He has lots of insight about players. He is always part of planning and all that. We haven’t made any decisions on captaincy. We will give it a thought after the auction and we know what our squad looks like,” Mo Babat told Sports18.
RCB sign Bhuvneshwar Kumar and Krunal Pandya on Day 2
Royal Challengers Bengaluru head into Day 2 of the IPL 2025 mega auction with the highest remaining purse of Rs 30.65 crore. They utilised their purse well to make a few brilliant signings as they managed to land veteran Indian pacer Bhuvneshwar Kumar and Indian all-rounder Krunal Pandya. RCB bought Bhuvneshwar for Rs 10.75 crore while paying Rs 5.75 crore for Krunal.
RCB also let go of England all-rounder Will Jacks to sign Australian all-rounder Tim David for Rs 3 crore on Day 2 of the IPL 2025 mega auction. RCB have built a strong squad and will look to plug the gaps further in the remainder of the auction on Monday.
