New Delhi: Chennai Super Kings (CSK) bought back a number of their former players as the likes of R Ashwin, Sam Curran, Vijay Shankar, Devon Conway and Rachin Ravindra all returned to the franchise at the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 mega auction in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia. Afghanistan spinner Noor Ahmad turned out to be CSK’s costliest buy at the auction for Rs 10 crore.
CSK spent heavily to reinforce their spin attack with the addition of two quality spinners in Ashwin and Noor. While they went all out to buy Noor for Rs 10 crore, CSK spent Rs 9.75 crore on veteran Indian spinner Ashwin. CSK also made some smart Indian buys to rebuild their pace attack after letting go of the likes of Deepak Chahar and Tushar Deshpande.
CSK bought left-arm Indian pacer Khaleel Ahmed for Rs 4.80 crore on Day 1 of the auction before adding the likes of Curran, Anshul Kamboj, Gurjapneet Singh, Kamlesh Nagarkoti, Mukesh Choudhary and Nathan Ellis to their pace attack on Day 2 of the IPL 2025 mega auction on Sunday. England all-rounder Curran turned out to be a steal for CSK at Rs 2.40 crore while Kamboj and Gurjapneet were bought for Rs 3.40 crore and Rs 2.20 crore, respectively.
Devon Conway, Rachin Ravindra return
Chennai Super Kings also managed to get back New Zealand batters Conway and Ravindra at the IPL 2025 mega auction. While Conway was bought for Rs 6.25 crore, CSK used the RTM to get Ravindra back for Rs 4 crore. Conway played an instrumental role in CSK’s title triumph in IPL 2023 with 672 runs in 16 matches while Ravindra showcased his potential in his debut season in IPL 2024.
Solid Indian core in middle-order
Chennai Super Kings also managed to build a solid Indian core in their middle order around the likes of Shivam Dube and Ravindra Jadeja. The five-time champions bought experienced batter Rahul Tripathi for Rs 3.40 crore while also adding the likes of Vijay Shankar (Rs 1.20 crore) and Deepak Hooda (Rs 1.70 crore) to their batting line-up. They also bought uncapped batter Shaikh Rasheed as a backup.
