New Delhi: Bihar youngster Vaibhav Suryavanshi has been in headlines for becoming the youngest player in the history of IPL to get picked in the auction. On Monday, at the age of 13 years and 243 days, Vaibhav was sold to Rajasthan Royals for a sum of INR 1.10 crore on the second day of the IPL 2025 mega auction in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia.
However, the achievement was marred with age fraud allegations with many fans believing the player to have turned 15. His official date of birth reads March 27, 2011, but the youngster once created a confusion by giving a different number when asked about his age.
During an interview with BNN News Benipatti held last year, Vaibhav said that he would turn 14 in September (date not known). Since then many fans have questioned his official age.
After Vaibhav’s news of getting picked in the IPL auction was widely circulated, father Sanjiv Suryavanshi told has responded to the confusion, saying they are ready for any tests to defend his son’s actual age,
“When he was 8 and half years old he first appeared for BCCI bone test. He has already played India U-19. We don’t fear anyone. He can again undergo age test,” Sanjiv told news agency PTI.
Vaibhav Suryavanshi a prodigious talent
Vaibhav made his first-class debut for Bihar in January this year in the Ranji Trophy 2023-24 season against Mumbai. In the five matches he has played in the red-ball format, he is yet to make noteworthy impact with the bat, having scored just 100 runs in 10 innings. He has been dismissed for duck on three instances.
Nevertheless, he made 104 while playing for India A against Australia A in the unofficial Test in Chennai in October this year. The century came in 58 balls, powered by 14 fours and four sixes. He has received praise from former Indian great VVS Laxman, who is currently the head of the National Cricket Academy.
