After bagging Rs 2.6 crore deal with RCB, English all-rounder set to make Test debut

New Delhi: England’s new sensation Jacob Bethell is set to make his Test debut against New Zealand at the Hagley Oval on 28 November, Thursday, The 21-year-old youngster made his T20I and ODI debut earlier this year against Australia, where he impressed everyone with his all-round abilities in the series.

Bethell’s Test debut news came just after Royal Challengers Bengaluru picked him in the IPL 2025 mega auction for 2.6 crore. Punjab Kings and Sunrisers Hyderabad showed interest in Bethell but RCB was bidding for an English youngster from the start and acquired him at last.

Bethell is known for his three-dimensional skills and recently, he showcased his talent in the T20I series against West Indies. He scored 173 runs in 4 innings with a superb 57.66 average and a thunderous strike rate of 167.96.

Bethell was given a chance in the playing XI because of the injury of Jordan Cox. Bethell will bat at number 3 against New Zealand and it will be a tough job for him to bat aggressively at the green-top wicket in Christchurch.

Ben Stokes will lead the English side against New Zealand and the Kiwis are also in contention for the World Test Championship final, so a three-match test series against England will decide the fate of the Kiwis in the WTC.

New Zealand are coming into their home series with a historic Test series win against India in India. They clean sweep India in their home for the first time in their Test history and the Kiwis will be in high confidence ahead of the Test series against England.

RCB’s most expensive buy in IPL 2025 mega auction

RCB spent 12.5 crore on Josh Hazelwood to strengthen their pace attack and most probably the Aussie pacer will lead the RCB’s pace attack with experienced Bhuvneshwar Kumar. Hazelwood became the most expensive buy for RCB camp in IPL 2025 mega auction. It was also the homecoming of Hazelwood in RCB as RCB picked up the Australian pacer in IPL 2022 mega-auction but released him ahead of mini-auction 2024 and Hazelwood went unsold in the IPL 2024 mini-auction.
