New Delhi: During his recent meet with Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Sports Minister Mansukh Mandavia, World Athletics President Sebastian Coe expressed his pleasure at spirited nations like India willing to host the extravagant Olympics. Coe, who was recently in India to meet his colleagues from the Indian Athletics Federation, also had a meeting with PM Modi and sports minister Mandavia to discuss the opportunities of the nation hosting the Summer Olympics in 2036.
India, along with some other countries, recently submitted the bid to host the 2036 Summer Games, expressing utter confidence that they would be able to host the extravagant sporting event in the perfect manner. It all started at the International Olympic Committee meeting last year in November where PM Modi said that the nation will not leave any stone unturned in the preparation of the massive sporting event.
Bidding for Olympics not easy, says Coe
Coe, in an interaction with the media said that, bidding for the Olympic Games is not an easy task and spirited countries like India, who have shown their willingness to host the event, is exemplary. He lauded the passion, capacity and commitment of nations like India saying that this is a good sign for the movement as kit is hard to bid for the event and even tougher to get the delivery perfectly.
Coe sheds light on strong connection with India
The World Athletics top boss, who is in the fray to replace Thomas Bach as the International Olympic Committee (IOC) president, said that he holds a very strong connection with India as his grandfather was from Punjab. He further revealed that his grandfather lived the major part of his life in Delhi and his family also owned a hotel in Delhi. The close connect with the country makes it easier for him to understand the nitty gritty and the association and inclination of the Indians towards varied sporting disciplines.
