Prithvi Shaw’s woeful run continues as he records another duck in SMAT 2024

New Delhi: Nothing seems to be going right for Prithvi Shaw at the moment. The opening batter’s woeful run continued in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy (SMAT) 2024 as he was once again dismissed for a duck in Mumbai’s clash against Services in Hyderabad on Tuesday. It was a second duck in the tournament for Shaw, who was dismissed without opening his account in Mumbai’s 2nd game against Maharashtra.

Shaw recently went unsold in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 mega auction owing to off-field controversies and issues regarding his fitness and discipline. All eyes were 25-year-old with many backing him to stage a strong comeback in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy 2024 for Mumbai. However, he has failed to impress in the tournament so far.

After scoring 40 runs in Mumbai’s last game against minnows Nagaland, Shaw was expected to notch up a big knock in the match against Services on Tuesday. However, the opening batter was dismissed for a three-ball duck by pacer Poonam Poonia in the very first over of Mumbai’s innings after they lost the toss and were asked to bat first in the game.

Shaw has so far managed to score only 96 runs in five matches in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy 2024 in what has been a dismal campaign for him. His 40-run knock against Nagaland is the highest individual score for the opening batter in the tournament so far.

Suryakumar Yadav, Shivam Dube shine on return

India’s T20I skipper Suryakumar Yadav and star all-rounder Shivam Dube shone with the bat on their return for Mumbai in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy. Playing their first game of the season against Services, both Suryakumar and Dube slammed quickfire half-centuries. Dube scored an unbeaten 71 off 37 balls laces with 7 sixes and 2 fours while Suryakumar scored a 46-ball 70 studded with 4 sixes and 7 fours.

Dube and Suryakumar combined to share a brilliant 130-run stand for the 4th wicket to power Mumbai to a big total of 192/4 in 20 overs. Mumbai have won three out of their 4 matches in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy 2024 so far and will be looking to bag their 4th win against Services on Tuesday.
