New Delhi: Indian opener Yashasvi Jaiswal’s first-ball curse continued during the visitors’ second innings on Day 2 of the ongoing 2nd Test against Australia at the Adelaide Oval in Adelaide on Saturday. Jaiswal, who was dismissed on the very first ball of the match by Mitchell Starc during India’s first innings, was sent packing by Scott Boland on his first ball of the match during the visitors’ second innings.
While it was not the first ball of India’s 2nd innings, it was Boland’s first ball on Day 2. Jaiswal was done by a short of a length delivery from Boland which was angled away from the left-hander. The Indian opener tried to defend it but ended up edging it to Aussie keeper Alex Carey, who made no mistakes with the catch. Jaiswal was sent packing cheaply on 24 after a decent start.

A good start with the bat in their second innings was the key for India after Australia posted a strong total of 337 runs on the board in their first innings to amass a 157-run lead. However, India failed to get off to a flying start as they lost both their openers cheaply in quick succession. Aussie skipper Pat Cummins got rid of KL Rahul cheaply on just 7 before Boland dismissed Jaiswal on 24.
Scott Boland gets rid of Virat Kohli
There was no stopping Boland after he dismissed Jaiswal as he also got rid of senior India batter Virat Kohli cheaply on just 11 runs in the 15th over. It was yet another batting failure for Kohli, who was dismissed on just 7 runs in India’s first-innings of the pin-ball Test match. Kohli’s dismissal left India reeling 66/3 with Australia continuing their domination in Adelaide.
Mitchell Starc piled more misery on the visitors as he dismantled Shubman Gill’s stumps with an absolute ripper to send him packing on 28 off 30 balls. Gill was looking in decent touch but Starc produced a ripper to get the batter of the right-hander. India lost 4 wickets inside 86 runs, trailing Australia by 63 runs in their second innings.
