New Delhi: A pair of low scores in the first Test against Bangladesh in Chennai, has cost Virat Kohli five places in the latest ICC Test rankings for batters. Kohli’s scores of 6 and 17 in the opening match of the two-Test series led to his downfall in the batting chart. Kohli misfired with the bat and could only muster 23 runs across two innings and has dropped out of the top 10 to the 12th spot. He now sits even below Pakistan batter Babar Azam who is placed in 11th position.
Meanwhile, Indian skipper Rohit Sharma also slipped five places to 10th in the latest rankings. Rohit’s twin failures (6 and 5) in Chennai saw him drop to 10th in the batting rankings.
Pant makes blockbuster re-entry in top 10
Meanwhile, Indian wicket-keeper batter, Rishabh Pant, who marked his Test return with a magnificent century, made a blockbuster re-entry in the top 10. Pant is now placed at sixth following his superb ton in the second innings of India’s victory over Bangladesh in Chennai. Opening batter Yashasvi Jaiswal moved up a rung to fifth place following his half-century in the first essay.
Pant’s 731 rating points are only bettered by his Indian compatriot Jaiswal (751). Rohit, meanwhile, keeps a top-ten spot, but his rating points dipped to 716.
In the bowling chart, Sri Lanka’s Prabath Jayasuriya moved five spots into eighth after a nine-wicket match haul against New Zealand in the first Test at Galle.
