New Delhi: Pro Kabaddi League franchise U Mumba announced to release prominent defender Sombir Goswami from the remaining part of the season. Without providing the cause of the decision, the franchise issued a brief statement on its social media platforms, citing the player has been released with immediate effect. He wasn’t even part of the squad in the commanding 47-31 win against Tamil Thalaivas on Wednesday.
‘Left corner, Sombir, has been released by U Mumba with immediate effect,” the statement read.

The reason remains as a suspense given that the player hasn’t had any injury. This has opened the door for speculations to enter the stage with some believing this was an action against disciplinary issue. However, nothing can be confirmed at the point as U Mumba has opted to enclose the crucial details over the release.
Why Sombir’s release comes as a big shock for Kabaddi fans?
After the completion of 106 Pro Kabaddi League matches in the ongoing season, Sombir was placed in the 15th position on the list of most tackle points. The left corner defender has claimed 43 tackle points in 17 matches, which is the most by any U Mumba player in this edition.
Sombir also completed four High5s in the season, a mark matched by Yogesh Dahiya of Dabang Delhi and Hitesh of UP Yoddhas. Only Nitin Rawal of Bengaluru Bulls and Nitesh Kumar of Tamil Thalaivas have more High5s in the 2024 PKL with five apiece. For the uninitiated, a High5 is an achievement in Pro Kabaddi when a defender, or any player, picks up a total of five or more than five tackle points.
The astonishment of the move only surges after Sombir received huge praise from team coach Gholamreza Mazandarani following his seven-point performance in the thrilling tie against Jaipur Pink Panthers on December 5.
“Sombir is one the best talents in PKL 11 and now slowly he is coming out, and I hope he plays more matches well for us,” the U Mumba coach said in the press conference.
U Mumba released star defender Sombir Goswami from the Pro Kabaddi League (PKL). The franchise offered no explanation, fueling speculation about potential disciplinary action. The absence of any injury-related cause further adds to the mystery. Kabaddi Sports News: Latest Cricket News, Cricket Live Score, Sports Breaking News from Sports Today
