New Delhi: Team India skipper Rohit Sharma was criticised heavily by fans once again after Australia dominated the proceedings on Day 2 of the 3rd Test between the two sides at the Gabba in Brisbane on Sunday. Rohit was slammed for his poor captaincy as fans blamed the Indian skipper for his lack of proactiveness and ideas to bail the team out of trouble.
Jasprit Bumrah was at his devastating best with the ball in the early morning session on Day 2 as he provided India with two quick breakthroughs to put the visitors on top. Bumrah got rid of Australian openers Usman Khawaja and Nathan McSweeney in successive overs to reduce the visitors to 38/2. Nitish Reddy then got rid of Marnus Labuschagne cheaply on 12 to leave the hosts reeling on 75/3.
However, India failed to capitalise on the good work from the pacers as Travis Head and Steve Smith combined to take the game away from the visitors. Head notched up his second consecutive century while Smith too brought an end to his long-standing drought with a brilliant hundred, his first in the series as the Aussie duo dominated the Indian bowlers at the Gabba.
Rohit’s captaincy came under the scanner once again as his bowling changes were far from effective and the field setup did little to trouble the duo of Head and Smith. Rohits’s lack of proactiveness also rubbed on the others as the overall body language of the other Indian players was also down when Smith and Head were going strong in the middle.
Fans slammed Rohit for his poor captaincy with some even calling for the immediate resignation of the Indian skipper. Rohit has been facing the heat from all corners ever since India suffered an embarrassing 3-0 whitewash at home in their last Test series against New Zealand. The visitors also lost the 2nd Test against Australia in Adelaide under Rohit’s captaincy.
