New Delhi: Abhijeet Tomar smashed a brilliant hundred in the 2nd Preliminary Quarter-Final of the Vijay Hazare Trophy 2024-25 between Rajasthan and Tamil Nadu at Kotambi Stadium in Vadodara on Thursday, January 9. After winning the toss, Tamil Nadu opted to bowl first, hoping to exploit seaming conditions and restrict Rajasthan to a low total but Abhijeet’s century helped Rajasthan to post a 268-run target.
He smashed 111 runs off 125 balls with the help of 12 boundaries and one maximum. His innings was mixed with aggressive and calculated shot selection to set a solid platform for Rajasthan after they lost early wicket. Abhijeet stitched a crucial 142-run partnership for the second wicket with Tomar, who scored 60 runs off 49 balls.
Rajasthan got off to a poor start as Trilok Nag dismissed Sachin Yadav on 4 runs. But a century partnership between Abhijeet and Tomar helped the team to fight back. Their partnership pushed Rajasthan’s total past 180 runs before Varun Chakaravarthy removed Tomar.
Chakaravarthy also dismissed Deepak Hooda shortly on 7 runs. Karthik Sharma made a crucial contribution and scored 35 runs off 28 balls but other batters failed to make any contribution with the bat. Chakaravarthy picked up 5 wickets while Sai Kishore and Sandeep Warrier also took two wickets each.
