New Delhi: On back of a fantastic all-round show, Rajasthan Royals registered their second consecutive victory after they beat Punjab Kings by 50 runs in an Indian Premier League encounter on Saturday. Jofra Archer made early inroads with couple of wickets after the Royals set up a massive 206-run target for Punjab, who faltered in their chase. With this victory, Rajasthan won their second consecutive match after beating CSK in the previous fixture while Punjab lost their first match.

Punjab lost four wickets and were in a dismal state at 43/4 before Nehal Wadhera and Glenn Maxwell balanced the innings with an 88-run partnership for the fifth wicket. While Wadera score 62 runs, Maxwell departed after hitting 30 runs. But after both the players departed, Punjab lost the plot in the chase and were finally restricted to 155 for 9 in the stipulated 20 overs. Archer was the pick of the bowlers with 3 wickets while Samson registered the most wins as RR skipper in IPL history.

Batters’ shine for Royals

Opener Yashasvi Jaiswal smashed a fine half-century and shared an 89-run partnership with skipper Sanju Samson as Rajasthan Royals posted a massive 205 for 4 against Punjab Kings. Jaiswal scored a 45-ball 67 studded with three boundaries and five maximums, while Samson hit a 26-ball 38. Riyan Parag then scored an unbeaten 43 to lift the team’s total above the 200-run mark.

New Zealand pacer Lockie Ferguson (2/37) was the most successful Punjab bowler getting rid of both Jaiswal and Samson, while Arshdeep Singh and Marco Jansen picked a wicket apiece. Earlier, Punjab Kings captain Shreyas Iyer won the toss and elected to bowl.
