Brisbane weather: What is rain forecast at Gabba on Day 5 as India aim to save Test

New Delhi: The start of Australia’s second innings has been delayed due to rain at the Gabba on Day 5 of the ongoing third Test between the hosts and India. Bad weather continued to play spoilsport in the Test match on the final day at the Gabba as rain interrupted play after only 2.5 overs were bowled in India’s first innings.

Jasprit Bumrah and Akash Deep resumed India’s first innings from 252/5 on Day 5 after their batting heroics saw the visitors avoid the follow-on on Day 4 on Tuesday. The duo were expected to add some quick runs on the final day but their partnership couldn’t last long as Travis Head got rid of Akash Deep on 31 in the 79th over to help Australia bundle out the visitors for 260 runs.

However, Australia couldn’t come out to bat in their second innings as rain interrupted the proceedings. The forecast at the start of play didn’t look promising and as expected, rain played spoilsport once again in the Test match. There has already been a delay of over two hours at the Gabba and Australia are yet to begin their second innings.

Gabba weather forecast: Will rain play spoilsport again on Day 5?

Dark clouds were hovering with thunderous lightning in Brisbane around the start of Day 5’s play at the Gabba. The rain arrived soon and led to a delay in proceedings after India were bundled out for 260 runs in their first innings. Since then it has already been over two hours but the rain has stopped and there is a strong chance of the game getting underway again.

The weather forecast doesn’t look promising for the rest of the day either on Wednesday as their over 55% chance of rain in the afternoon and the forecast gets worse as the day progresses with an 80% chance of rain around 4 PM local time.

India aim to secure a draw

The Indian dressing room was elated after Bumrah and Akash Deep helped the visitors avoid follow-on with their brilliant 10-wicket partnership on Day 4 on Tuesday. India will be hoping to pull off a draw in the Gabba Test on Day 5. The visitors will aim to ensure they bat all they long even if they are invited early for their second innings.
