Shreyas Iyer smashes 50-ball century against Karnataka in Vijay Hazare Trophy

New Delhi: Mumbai captain Shreyas Iyer smashed a century against Karnataka at the Narendra Modi Stadium B Ground, Ahmedabad on December 21, Saturday. He smashed 10 maximums and five boundaries in his unbeaten 114-run inning off 55 balls. His knock powered Mumbai to a massive total of 382 runs in 50 overs.

Karnataka opted to ball first against Mumbai in the Round 1 match of the Vijay Hazare Trophy. Vidyadhar Patil removed Angkrish Raghuvanshi on 6 runs in the 4th over. But after his dismissal, Hardik Tamore and Ayush Mhatre stitched a 141-run partnership for the second wicket. Pravin Dubey dismissed Mhatre on 78 runs in the 30th over while Shreyas Gopal removed Hardik on 84 runs in the 34th over of the match.

Iyer also forged a 56-run partnership with Suryakumar Yadav but Dubey removed him on 20 runs. Iyer batted brilliantly and stitched another big partnership of 148 runs with Shivam Dube. Both batters remained unbeaten as Mumbai posted a huge target of 383 runs for Karnataka in 50 over. Dube also scored an unbeaten 63 runs off 36 balls with the help of five maximums and five boundaries.

Incredible year for Shreyas Iyer

Shreyas Iyer’s incredible journey started with Kolkata Knight Riders, where he led the franchise to their third IPL title victory. After IPL, Iyer captained Mumbai to the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy victory, beating Madhya Pradesh by 5 wickets in the final at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium. Iyer also made crucial contributions with the bat, scoring 452 at an average of 90.4 in the Ranji Trophy. He also scored 345 runs in 9 matches at an average of 49.28 in the SMAT 2024-25. He was released by KKR ahead of the mega auction and became the second most expensive player in the IPL history. He was bought by Punjab Kings (PBKS) for a whopping Rs 26.75 crore.
