New Delhi: India skipper Rohit Sharma suffered an injury on his leg on Sunday while training for the Boxing Day Test against Australia that begins on Thursday at the Melbourne Cricket Ground.
The 37-year-old was struck on his left knee while facing throwdowns from a team support staff, as per a report in the Times of India, which added that he received medical treatment after batting for a while.
Rohit was in visible pain as he was attended to by the physio, who put an ice pack on the affected area and the knock is not expected to be serious.
With four days to go for the crucial fourth test of the five-match series that is currently locked at 1-1, the entire Indian team attended training on Sunday.
Pacers Jasprit Bumrah, Mohammed Siraj and Akash Deep bowled at full pace while Virat Kohli batted against spinners Washington Sundar and Ravindra Jadeja.
The Indian team practiced for over two hours and will have take a rest from training on Monday.
Rohit searching for form
Rohit skipped the first Test at Perth for the birth of his second child. India won the series opener by 295 runs under the captaincy of Jasprit Bumrah.
The right hander returned to the team in the secind match and took over captaincy duties as India lost the day-night Test at Adelaide. The third match was drawn at Brisbane and rain washed away a major chunk of action with India getting dominated throughout the time action was possible.
Rohit has endured a prolonged dry spell with the bat, starting from the Bangaldesh series at home. In Adelaide, he managed only three and six in two innings, followed by only 1o in the first innings at the Gabba.
After the drawn third Test, Rohit accepted that he hasn’t scored runs of late, but backed himself to deliver in the remaining two matches.
“Yeah, I have not batted well. There is no harm in accepting that. But I know what’s in my mind, how I am preparing myself. All those boxes are very much ticked. It’s just about spending as much time as possible batting,” he said at the post-match press conference.
“Which I am pretty sure I am just there. As long as my mind, my body, my feet are moving well. I am pretty happy with how things are panning out for me. Sometimes those numbers can tell you that it’s been a while since he has got big runs.
“But for a person like me, I think it’s all about how I feel in my mind. What kind of prep I am having before each game. And how I am feeling about myself. That’s the most important thing,” he added.
