New Delhi: UFC Interim heavyweight champion Tom Aspinall will be the backup fighter for UFC Heavyweight champion Jon Jones vs Stipe Miocic fight at UFC 309 in Madison Square Garden on November 17, Sunday according to Dana White. The Jones vs Miocic fight has been in the talks for more than a year and now it is finally confirmed at the UFC 309 event.
Jones vs Miocic fight was also scheduled at UFC 295 where first Miocic pulled out from the fight but Sergei Pavlovich was the backup fighter but then Jones also pulled out from the bout with his leg injury then Aspinall stepped in on short notice to fight Pavlovich at UFC 295 event.
In the latest episode of Dana White’s Contender series, White said “Tom Aspinall is next in line for anything that happens after this fight.” and also confirmed that Aspinall will be the backup fighter for the title fight if anything worse happens than Aspinall will step in to fight anyone in the event.
It is also not certain that Aspinall will get guaranteed a title shot or any dream fight. White will make decisions in the event that anything misfortune happens.

White also talked about Jones’s retirement talk as he told reporters at the UFC 306 event that it might be his last fight as he referred to the Miocic fight as “more than likely” a retirement fight. White responded about the Jones retirement talks that he would figure out things after this fight.
Why speak to him after this event?” White said when asked about Jones’s retirement comments. “You’ve got to figure out what’s going to happen in this fight. See how this fight plays out and then we’ll go from there.”
White is keen to have Jones vs Aspinall fight but now in current circumstances, it is not confirmed when this heavyweight dream fight will happen.
