Banks and stock markets holiday: Will BSE and NSE be closed due to Christmas?

Kolkata: The Indian stock markets will remain closed for business on Wednesday. The website of Bombay Stock Exchange, or BSE, will be shut on account of Christmas. Accordingly, there will be no action on the Sensex or Nifty or any other indices in the Indian stock market. According to Reserve Bank of India, banks all over the country will be closed due to Christmas.

Since it is a holiday in both BSE and NSE, all segments – equity, equity derivative, SLB and currency derivatives – will shut for business. Commodity markets will also be closed. Significantly, December 26 will mark the last trading holiday in BSE and NSE in 2024 (excluding the weekend Saturdays and Sunday).

Banks closed in these states on December 26, 27

While there will be no banking activity in India on Wednesday, December 25, a few states will have banking holidays on December 26 and 27 as well. A point to note is that on December 26 banks will be closed in Aizawl (Mizoram), Kohima (Nagaland) and Shillong (Meghalaya) due to Christmas celebrations. On December 27 too, banks will be closed in Kohima (Nagaland) for the same reason. However, banks will continue to provide services through their ATM network and online services on any holiday. But if anyone intends to get some service by visiting the branch of any bank, he/she should keep these dates in these states in mind.
