Vinod Kambli gets Rs 5 lakh aid from MP, remains in stable condition

New Delhi: Ailing former India batter Vinod Kambli has received a pledge of Rs 5 lakh from MP Shrikant Shinde, son of Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde.

Kambli is admitted in the ICU of a private hospital in Thane and developed a fever on Tuesday but doctors treating him said he was in stable condition.

Eknath’s Officer on Special Duty (OSD) Mangesh Chiwte went to the hospital on Tuesday, speaking to medical staff to ensure he receives adequate care during his treatment, a press release issued by the deputy CM’s office said.

Kalyan Lok Sabha MP Shrikant runs an eponymous charity foundation and the press release said the promised money will be provided through the foundation. Chiwte said Shrikant also committed to support Kambli and his family in the coming days.

Eknath is an MLA in the Maharashtra assembly fron Thane district. Kambli thanked him for taking efforts for his welfare and wished to meet him when he recovers from multiple ailments, including urinary tract infection.

Eknath and Shrikant are also expected to visit Kambli at the hospital, it was written in the press release.

‘Responding to treatment’

The 52-year-old Kambli was rushed to Akruti Hospital in the town of Bhiwandi on Saturday. He has responded to treatment, Dr Vivek Trivedi, head of the medical team supervising the former left hand batter’s health, said.

Initially doctors had planned an MRI on him but as he developed fever on Tuesday night, non-invasive medical procedure could be taken to cure him. Dr Trivedi said initial medical examinations had revealed that Kambli had clots in his brain.

Kambli could be moved out of the ICU within two days and discharged from hospital in four days, he added, also disclosing that the former cricketer had extreme urinary infection, resulting in accumulation of puss in his bladder that needed to be removed quickly.

His blood pressure also fluctuated when he was brought in for admission. “His condition will be closely monitored for the next 24 hours and a decision taken on shifting him out of the ICU,” Dr Trivedi added.
