Liverpool’s Mohamed Salah ‘far away’ from contract extension with the club

New Delhi: Liverpool forward, Mohamed Salah has said that he is still “far away” from an extension of his stay at the club after having three goal involvements, including one goal in the Red’s 5-0 win over West Ham. The win gives Arne Slot’s men an eight-point clearance at the top of the Premier League table.

The 32-year-old’s contract with Liverpool on June 30th and from the start of next year can open talks with non-English clubs for a free transfer at the end of the season. Salah’s teammates Virgil van Dijk and Tren Alexander-Arnold are also entering the final six months of their contract at Anfield this week. Despite all the uncertainty regarding his future, Salah has maintained that his current focus is on winning the Premier League title with Liverpool.

A lot of the success that Liverpool have had this year is a lot down to Egyptian international. However, neither Liverpool nor Salah have agreed to any terms of extension though there were earlier reports that the merseyside team had made an offer to extend Salah’s stay at the club. There was no confirmation on the duration which Liverpool want Salah to stay back.

During his interaction with Sky Sports, Salah noted that he was focused on winning the Premier League trophy and felt the team couldn’t afford to become complacent at this point of the season with many teams making a stake at the title. For now Salah noted he was enjoying his game though he still wants more from his career.

For his heroics, he was awarded the man of the match against the Hammers. In the current season, he is the highest goal scorer, with 17 goals and made 13 assists from 18 appearances. In the UEFA Champions League, he has six goal involvements in six games, including two goals.

Arne Slot’s take on Mohamed Salah

Liverpool manager, Slot remained unperturbed about the three senior players being able to begin talks with overseas teams from January 1st, 2025. Slot has noted that he still has some control over their “destiny”. Slot noted that while he obviously has no control on their personal life, he has some expectation from the trio on-field which they have time and again been abel to deliver.

Slot addressed rumours about who they might bring during the January transfer period, saying that he was happy with the squad he has at the moment. Further, he noted that players had repaid the club’s and his faith with their performance so far.

Speaking about Salah, Slot noted that the Egyptian was an “extraordinary” player. Slot noted that Salah’s current form is no doubt praiseworthy, but he has been a solid player for the side over the last eight years. He noted that Salah was no doubt very talented, and worked hard even when the oppositio has possession. Further Slot has said that other players in the squad have been equally good to build the game for Salah to finish well.
