New Delhi: The International Cricket Council unveiled the official event song for the 2024 Women’s T20 World Cup on Monday apart from announcing that independent chair of its anti-corruption unit will retire next month.
The event soundtrack, titled ‘Whatever It Takes’, is a collaboration between the all-girl pop group W.i.S.H., music director Mikey McCleary and composer Parth Parekh.
The single is produced by Bay Music House and is now available for download and streaming on major platforms worldwide.
Apart from the song, its official music video was also launched to provide a cinematic preview of the tournament that features highlight reels of iconic moments in women’s cricket and a choreography making it a must-watch event of the year.
The official song for the ninth edition of the tournament has been created keeping in mind efforts to connect with the younger fans and has a global pop sound feel.
“The ICC is committed to make the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup 2024 the best possible stage for world class players to shine. Women’s cricket is firmly established on the global stage, and our vision is to further enhance its recognition with the launch of the official event song,” ICC’s general manager for marketing and communications Claire Furlong said in a statement.
“This soundtrack is not only a prelude of the extraordinary talent that will be displayed on the field of play, but also the vehicle to inspiring a new generation of heroes to women’s cricket’s ever-growing, worldwide fanbase.”
Flanagan to retire
The ICC also said that independent chair of its anti-corruption unit Ronnie Flanagan will retire from the role at the end of October this year.
Flanagan has been at the helm since May 2010 and had replaced Lord Condon. Efforts are on to replace him and a call will be taken among those recommended at its board meetings next month.
