New Delhi: AC Milan have appointed Sergio Conceicao as their new head coach following Paulo Fonseca’s departure from the side. Earlier in the day Fonseca was sacked following the side’s draw against Roma after having served as the manager of the Italian club for just six months, with AC Milan placed in eighth.
Fonseca had been brought in June and has produced only 12 wins from 24 games across competitions. His performance in the UEFA Champions League has been much better, with four consecutive wins, including a 3-1 victory over Real Madrid. They are very much in contention for breaking into the knockout playoff round after being placed in the 12th in the points table.
Conceicao hasn’t been with any club since departing from Porto back in June following a Portuguese Cup triumph nine days prior. The Rossoneri have confirmed that the 50-year-old will be at the helm in San Siro until 2026. Conceicao in his seven seasons at Porto had won the league titles thrice, four times won Portuguese Cups, thrice won the Portuguese Super Cups and once the Portuguese League Cup.

He takes over the seven-time European Champion sitting 14 points behind Atalanta and Napoli and are far from their previous season’s performance under Stefano Pioli when they finished second and in 2022 even guided them to their first league title in 11 years.
Milan will be back against Juventus on January 3rd in the first leg of the Italian Super Cup’s semi-finals, with Conceicao’s son Fransisco playing for the opposition. Previously Conceicao had managed his son during his tenure at Porto. Milan are currently without their top scorer in the Serie A Christian Pulisic, who has been ruled out due to calf and ankle issues.
