After Ryan Rickelton, Temba Bavuma sizzles for South Africa in Cape Town Test

New Delhi: After Ryan Rickelton’s trailblazing century in the Cape Town Test match on Friday, Temba Bavuma followed the same path with sensational hundred to put the hosts in command against Pakistan on the opening day of the second Test match. Rickelton shined for the hosts with his second century in Tests and Bavuma, who looked in a classic touch right from the beginning, joined the party slamming a ton, his fourth in Tests, and maiden against Pakistan, in 167 balls.

Together the duo joined hands for a double century partnership, solidifying the team’s position in the contest after they lost the first three wickets early. After opting to bat first, South Africa lost the wickets of Aiden Markram, Wiaan Mulder and Tristan Stubbs at the score of 72 runs. Following the first three blows, Rickelton and Bavuma clubbed to steer South Africa’s innings and dominate the proceedings.

Rickelton, Bavuma save SA from collapse

South Africa started off the proceedings in a confident manner, looking well set till they had made 61 runs but in a matter of just 11 runs after that, the hosts lost three quick wickets as Pakistan managed to push them against the wall. Rickelton and Bavuma joined forces to not only help the Proteas take their innings forward but also save them from a dramatic collapse, which looked in the offing but did not happen.

At the time of writing this report, South Africa were dominantly placed at 305/3 in 76 overs, with Rickelton and Bavuma solid at 171 not out and 105 not out respectively. For Pakistan, Mohammad Abbas, Khurram Shahzad and Salman Agha picked a wicket apiece.
