US Olympic medallist Fred Kerley arrested in Florida for attacking police officer

New Delhi: South Florida police arrested two-time Olympic medalist Fred Kerley after being caught with a stun gun on January 3, Friday. The incident started with Kerley parked his vehicle between Collins Avenue and Ocean Drive. Later on, Police officers showed concerns about Kerley’s vehicle, which was parked nearby at a crime scene.

Police officers showed disagreement towards Kerley but the athlete became more aggressive in the conversation and refused to get away from the place. Kerley didn’t stop there after a heated argument with police officers, he ignored the lawful commands and took a fighting stance in front of officers.

This led to his arrest and also an officer word a body camera that captured all the altercations of Kerley with police and refused to be taken into police custody at midnight.

According to an officer report, when Kerley was resisting the custody, a police officer delivered multiple hammer fists to his head and also hit his elbows on his back to take him to custody.

“Stop resisting!” one officer is heard saying in the body-cam footage. “I’m not resisting, get off of me, bro,” Kerley responded.

A police body cam also showed footage of an officer putting his hand on Kerley’s chest and after that Kerley removed his hand away and immediately officer grabbed Kerley’s arm.

Kerley pulled his arm away with both involved in a scuffle. Officers then pushed Kerley to the ground. A small crowd gathered during the encounter and some people recorded the incident also. In the police altercation, Kerley’s girlfriend was also identified as she was screaming ‘STOP’ repeatedly.

Fred Kerley is a US Olympic runner who won two Olympic medals. Kerley won a bronze medal in the 100 meters at Paris Olympics and he also won a silver medal in the Tokyo Olympics 2020.
