‘Great honour’: PM Narendara Modi hosts India’s T20 World Cup winners before victory parade

New Delhi: India’s T20 World Cup winning team were welcomed with open arms, as they landed in Delhi before being invited by Prime Minister Narendra Modi at his residence on Thursday.

Euphoric fans shouted “India, India” as the Air India chartered flight carrying team touched down at the New Delhi airport, after their arrival was delayed for days due ti Hurricane Beryl that lashed the Caribbean islands.

The players waved to the frenzied crowd and grooved to the beats of drums and live music at the hotel before moving towards the residence of PM Modi, where they had breakfast and spent nearly two hours.

The team wore Indian jerseys emblazoned with the word “Champions” on the front with two stars, for the two T20 World Cup titles, above the crest.

BCCI president Roger Binny and secretary Jay Shah presented the PM with a customised India jersey with ‘NAMO’ and ‘1’ inscribed on the back.
