‘We know how to beat them’: Kagiso Rabada on South Africa facing Australia in WTC final

New Delhi: South Africa speedster Kagiso Rabada has said that his side knows the art of defeating Australia as the two teams will clash in the World Test Championship (WTC) final at Lord’s in June.

On Monday, South Africa defeated Pakistan emphatically by 10 wickets in the second Test at Newlands in Cape Town. The Temba Bavuma-led side won the series 2-0 to extend their winning run to seven Test matches in a row.

Rabada picked up six wickets in the match – three wickets in each innings – where South Africa bowled out Pakistan for 194 and 478 after posting a mammoth total of 615. Nevertheless, Pakistan managed to avoid an innings defeat even after being asked to follow-on. A minuscule target of 58 was set by the visitors and the Proteas opener David Bedingham (47 off 30 balls) cut short the task in 7.1 overs.

Speaking on facing Australia, the reigning  WTC champions, in the final, Rabada said that his side can beat the Test heavyweights.

“South Africa versus Australia has always been an intense rivalry, because we play cricket quite similar. We play hard – and they’re going to come hard at us, and we know that,” Rabada said.

“But we also know how to beat them. One hundred per cent, Test cricket is still alive. It’s our best format that we’ve been playing right now,” he added.

South Africa and Australia’s Test rivalries were interesting for the fact that both teams used to win away series as observed in the last two decades. The home teams have managed to win on their turf in the last two bilateral series between the two nations – South Africa in 2018 and Australia in 2022-23.

South Africa confirmed their WTC final spot after the first Test win against Pakistan and Australia made it after the final Test win against India in Sydney. The WTC final is scheduled between June 11 and 15 at the Home of Cricket.

South Africa’s Kagiso Rabada expressed confidence in his team’s ability to defeat Australia in the upcoming World Test Championship final at Lord’s. Following South Africa’s emphatic 2-0 series win over Pakistan, Rabada highlighted the intense rivalry between the two teams and their similar, aggressive playing styles.  Cricket Sports News: Latest Cricket News, Cricket Live Score, Sports Breaking News from Sports Today
