New Delhi: The Pakistan selectors have decided to name injured opening batter Saim Ayub in the provisional squad for the upcoming ICC Champions Trophy 2025. The big event will begin in Pakistan on February 19 and Ayub, who suffered an injury recently, will most probably be part of the CT 2025. Ayub fractured his ankle on the first day of the second Test match against South Africa last week and has been advised six weeks of rest.
In the six weeks, he will undergo his rehabilitation process and his foot was placed in the an Ankle Medical Moon Boot as part of the recovery. A source close to the national selectors was quoted as saying to news agency PTI that the batter’s form in the recent months across formats and his improvement especially in the 50-over format has convinced the selectors to keep him in the squad despite his injury.
Saim travels to London for treatment
For availing the best medical facilities that will lead to a swift healing, the PCB has sent Saim to London for treatment to his ankle. This has been done to ensure that he gets fit in time ahead of the big ICC event. “The selectors will keep him in the preliminary squad as the Pakistan Cricket Board has sent Saim to London to get the best medical opinion on his ankle injury in order to know if he can be fit in time for the Champions Trophy,” he said.
All the cricket boards have to submit the final squad for the Champions Trophy 2025 without requiring any clearance from the Tournament technical committee by 12th January deadline. If Saim is not able to be fit in time, he can be replaced by another player like Fakhar Zaman, Abdullah Shafique or Imam ul Haq.
