New Delhi: Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) opener Abhishek Sharma went all guns blazing with the bat as he smashed a 40-ball century in his side’s clash against Punjab Kings (PBKS) in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 on Saturday, April 12. Abhishek lit up the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium in Hyderabad with fireworks off his willow as he took the PBKS bowlers to the cleaners.
In pursuit of a huge target of 246 runs, SRH openers Travis Head and Abhishek got the home team off to a flyer with a sensational start. The duo were back to their dominant best in the Powerplay as they smashed the PBKS bowlers all around the park. Abhishek raced to his fifty off just 19 balls, helping SRH get 83 runs in the Powerplay.
Head too continued his onslaught on the other end and reached his fifty off 31 balls. The duo ended up sharing a whopping 171-run stand for the first wicket, the highest opening partnership of the season so far, to set the stage for a comfortable win for SRH. The partnership was broken in the 13th over when Yuzvendra Chahal dismissed Head on 66 off 37 balls.
However, Abhishek continued his destructive form on the other end and completed his hundred off just 40 balls with a single of Chahal in the same over. It was his second hundred in the IPL and the second-fastest hundred by an SRH batter in the tournament, behind Head’s 39-ball ton against RCB last year. It is also the 5th-fastest century by any batter in the history of the tournament.
Abhishek Sharma pulls off unique celebration
Abhishek pulled off an interesting celebration after completing his second IPL tn against Punjab Kings. After taking a single to reach the three-figure mark, the SRH opener let out a roar and raised his bat before taking out a piece of paper from inside his shirt and lifting it in the air. His unique celebration left the fans and Punjab Kings players wondering.
However, later, the broadcaster focused on the piece of paper and the message written on it. “This one is for Orange Army,” was the message written on the paper as it was revealed that Abhishek dedicated his sublime knock of the SRH fans, who have been turning up in great numbers to support the franchise even after their poor start to the season.
