Jose Mourinho returns? Ex Chelsea boss emerges as favourite for Premier League job

New Delhi: Jose Mourinho is easily one of the best managers in the world and is a certified legend of the Premier League. The Portuguese has won the Premier League title three times in his career in four different spells in the league. He first came to England back in 2004, having just guided Porto to the UEFA Champions League title as Roman Abramovic signed him on as Chelsea manager. He guided the Blues to back to back Premier League titles in his first spell in charge before coming back to them in 2013 and winning another league title with them.

He would then have two more spells in the league, first joining Manchester United in 2016 before signing for another London side in Tottenham Hotspur in 2019. Now plying his trade in Turkey, the Portuguese manager is in charge of one of the biggest clubs in Turkish football in Fenerbahce and has them sitting second in the league. Reports recently emerged of him being earmarked as the leading candidate for another Premier League job.

He has surprisingly emerged as the leading contender to become Everton’s next manager, with the club’s new owners, The Friedkin Group (TFG), reportedly considering replacing current boss Sean Dyche. The 61-year-old Portuguese tactician, nicknamed “The Special One,” is believed to be interested in a return to the Premier League where he has previously thrived with Chelsea, Manchester United, and Tottenham.

The connection between Mourinho and Everton’s owners adds an intriguing layer to the story. Last year, TFG owner Dan Friedkin dismissed Mourinho from his role at Roma, making a potential reunion at Goodison Park an unexpected twist. However, Mourinho’s undeniable pedigree, which includes three Premier League titles, nine major trophies in England, and success across Europe, appears to outweigh any lingering tensions from his Roma exit.

Even though the Friedkin Group let go of Mourinho as Roma boss, that wasn’t before the Portuguese manager led them to European glory by winning them the UEFA Conference League and also guided them to the finals of the UEFA Europa League the following season. He has had a good equation with the American Group and could be a wise choice for Everton, who are crying out loud for an overhaul practically since David Moyes left them to take over Manchester United.

Everton’s Ambitious Plans

Everton’s new owners are keen to make a bold statement as they prepare to move into the state-of-the-art Bramley-Moore Dock Stadium next season. In addition to Mourinho, other candidates linked to the role include former Everton manager David Moyes and Brentford’s Thomas Frank. However, Mourinho’s name tops the list, with bookmakers placing him as the odds-on favourite.

If appointed, Mourinho would bring invaluable experience and a winning mentality to a club desperate to escape the relegation battle and reignite their ambitions. For Mourinho, a move to Everton could offer the perfect stage to rejuvenate his reputation and relive his glory days in English football.

The Portuguese manager, who has a wealth experience in the English top flight with four spell across three clubs, is currently in charge of Turkish side Fenerbahce but has emerged as frontrunner for another Premier League job.  Football Sports News: Latest Cricket News, Cricket Live Score, Sports Breaking News from Sports Today
