New Delhi: Manchester City are looking to make the most out of this January transfer window, and Frankfurt striker Omar Marmoush would certainly be one of their main targets. He has been sensational ever since the Bundesliga campaign started, giving a tough competition to Harry Kane in terms of number of goals scored in the league. The Egyptian is currently one of the top attackers in Europe and it seems likely that he will soon be lighting up the Premier League in a few days’ time, with Pep Guardiola looking to get him into the squad.
At the age of 25, he has a lot of years ahead and he couldn’t have had a better start with getting the spotlight at Eintracht Franksfurt. However, talking about his move to Manchester, nothing has been agreed just yet, but the Egyptian looks ready for a different challeng which would be much more difficult and demanding. Before getting into that part, his early career had a lot planned for him, going through the ranks of Egyptian side, Wadi Degla’s youth team and eventually joining the German side, Wolfsburg’s youth team.
Early career of Marmoush
In 2017, Wolfsburg signed 18-year-old Omar Marmoush, regarded as one of Egypt’s brightest talents.
After six years, including loan spells at St. Pauli and Stuttgart, and just 6 goals for the first team, Wolfsburg let him go to Eintracht without regret.

One of the two largest teams in the nation, El Zamalek or Al Ahly, typically sign the most gifted Egyptians, particularly if they are 17 years old and scored 44 goals in 28 games in the Egyptian junior system. But Marmoush had chosen a different route. Patrice Carteron, the head coach of the first team, was impressed by his outstanding achievements in Wadi Degla’s youth teams and gave him his debut in the season’s final game, in which Marmoush contributed the winning goal.
In 2017, the Egyptian accepted an offer from Wolfsburg and left for Germany after another season with Degla. Marmoush’s experience with Wolfsburg’s reserve team molded him and strengthened his mental toughness, although it took him some time to adjust because he didn’t speak German. He didn’t even know how to order coffee in his first few months in Germany. Marmoush would signal to the waiter that he wanted the same thing after waiting for a comparable order to come up.
Establishing himself in Germany
Whenever the ball falls to Marmoush in the box, he wastes no time to shoot.
It’s no surprise he has such a high shot volume of 4.38 shots per 90 when you see how quickly he’ll shoot on either side.pic.twitter.com/gnJAeZxZM7

After a year and a half on loan at Stuttgart and St Pauli, Marmoush made a name for himself in Wolfsburg’s senior squad during the 2022–2023 season. He may not have had the most polished stats with just seven goal contributions for Wolfsburg, but his abilities and skills were well evident to the fans. Eintracht Frankfurt came calling the next season, as they were impressed by the Egyptian’s flair and abilities, eventually earning him a move to the Western part of Germany.
Marmoush thrived as a striker in Degla’s youth teams, thus he feels comfortable playing center forward for Frankfurt. He scored 17 goals in his debut season after signing on a free transfer in the summer of 2023, and he is on pace to easily surpass that total this season. With a total of 18 goals and 11 assists in all competitions, he is having some season with Frankfurt. It is clear to see that he is enjoying his time at Germany, and has gained a lot of attention from top European clubs with Mnachester City being one of them.
The Egypt forward is at ease playing with his back to goal from that central position, dropping frequently to create a passing option between the lines and connect with his teammates. His ability to dribble also aids him while he’s moving into open spaces or in confined ones. Always looking to move off the ball to create a more dangerous passing option, Marmoush targets the right areas. His speed is useful both when attacking the space and when receiving the pass.
As evidenced by his goals for Frankfurt, his deft movement within the penalty area complements these offensive traits. It will be interesting to see how he fits into that City lineup as Pep would certainly have a plan before making this move and signing the Egyptian star.
Omar Marmoush is being eyed by a numerous top European clubs with Manchester City being the favourites to sign him. Let’s have a look at how Marmoush got the title of the “next Mohamed Salah”. Football Sports News: Latest Cricket News, Cricket Live Score, Sports Breaking News from Sports Today
