New Delhi: The legendary Kapil Dev has responded to former India all-rounder Yuvraj Singh’s father Yograj Singh’s controversial remarks about him. Yograj recently revealed he was left enraged and wanted to kill Kapil after the former India captain dropped him from the Indian team during his playing days. Yograj’s comments on the 1983 World Cup-winning captain went viral.
A pace-bowling all-rounder, Yograj played six ODIs and a solitary Test match for India in his brief international career where he managed only 5 wickets. Yograj turned to acting after failing to make it big in cricket. During an interaction on ‘Unfiltered by Samdish’ YouTube channel, Yograj revealed he was great friends with Kapil but their friendship ended after the latter dropped him from the national team.
Yograj claimed he went to Kapil’s house with a pistol fuming after being dropped from the team and wanted to kill the former India captain. He said he wanted to ‘put a bullet through’ Kapil’s head but stopped himself after interacting with his mother.
“When Kapil Dev became captain of India, North Zone, and Haryana, he dropped me for no reason. My wife wanted me to ask Kapil questions. I told her that I would teach this bloody man a lesson,” said Yograj said in the interview.
“I took my pistol out; I went to Kapil’s house in Sector 9. He came out with his mother. I abused him a dozen times. I told him because of you I have lost a friend and what you have done, you will pay for it. I told him, ‘I want to put a bullet through your head, but I am not doing it because you have a very pious mother who is standing here.’ I told Shabnam, ‘Let’s go’,” he added.

Kapil was recently asked about Yograj’s controversial comments against him during an interaction with some reporters while heading for an event. In a video going viral on social media, Kapil can be seen chatting with the paparazzi before heading to the venue. When asked about Yograj’s ‘pistol’ comments, Kapil asked the reporter who was he talking about.
“Kaun hai? Kaun hai? Kiski baat kar rahe ho? (Who is he? Who is he? Whom are you talking about?),” Kapil told the reporter. “Yograj Singh. Yuvraj Singh’s father,” a reporter told Kapil.
“Acchaa, aur kuch? (Anything else)” said the 1983 World Cup-winning captain as he refused to comment on Yograj’s remarks on him.
Yograj has attacked Kapil in the past as well, blaming the legendary India all-rounder for betraying him and destroying his cricket career. In an interview last year, Yograj made some derogatory remarks on Kapil stating that he exacted revenge on the former India captain with the success of his son Yuvraj, who won 13 trophies with Team India.
“The greatest captain of our time, Kapil Dev… I told him, I’ll leave you in a position where the world would spit on you. Today, Yuvraj Singh has 13 trophies, and you have only one, the World Cup. End of discussion,” Yograj said.
