New Delhi: The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), on Tuesday, released a video of encouragement for Team India ahead of the Under 19 women’s T20 World Cup set to be staged in Malaysia. This will be the second edition of the coveted tournament and Team India, who are the defending champions, look all geared up to fight it out for the ultimate supremacy.

In the 2023 edition of the World Cup, which was scheduled in South Africa, India under 19 women showcased excellence to beat England under 19 team in the finale by seven wickets to lift the inaugural title. The second edition of the big ICC event will begin on January 18 and last till February 2 in the beautiful country of Malaysia.

Meanwhile, the Indian cricket board released a motivation video for defending champions the Women in Blue, with the caption: ‘Team India are ready for the Under 19 World Cup’. With the beautiful Petronas Twin Towers in the backdrop, all the captains of the posed for the cameras in smiles as they all seemed to be battle ready.

Tournament to feature 16 teams

The big ICC event will feature 16 teams which will include 10 full-member teams from the 2023 edition of the tournament. Five teams out of total lot will be from regional qualification. India bagged the previous edition of the tournament under the leadership of Shafali Verma and the defending champions are grouped with hosts Malaysia, Sri Lanka, and West Indies in Group A.

The 16 participating teams have been divided into four groups consisting of four teams each. The 16-day tournament will feature as many as 41 games, with the finale scheduled to take place on Sunday, February 2. The World Cup will be played across four different venues in the country.
