New Delhi: England batter James Vince has quit First-Class cricket to play in the Pakistan Super League (PSL) – Pakistan’s premier T20 competition. Vince has defied the decision of the England Cricket Board (ECB) to not grant NOCs for English cricketers to appear in the T20 tournament.

In November last year, the ECB had decided against issuing NOCs to all-format players to play in the PSL due to scheduling issues. The PSL 2025 is scheduled for April-May this season and the fixtures clash with the early rounds of the County Championship.

Vince, who has featured in 13 Tests, was set to lead Hampshire but changed his mind after being retained by the Kings ahead of the PSL draft.

Vince decides to call it quits

“I love Hampshire. It’s been my club and home for 16 years, so I want to be able to maintain my best to keep delivering for Hampshire in T20 cricket, and hopefully even further our success in the competition [the Blast],” Vince said in a statement.

“I also need to understand what is best for my family, and combine that with the stage of my career I am at,” he added.

The 33-year-old top-order batter who has been captaining Hampshire since 2015, is currently playing for Gulf Giants in the ILT20 tournament in the UAE.

Hampshire’s director of cricket Giles White was left disappointed with Vince’s decision but lauded the star batter for his commitment on and off the field.

Vince boasts a stellar First-Class record. In 216 FC matches, Vince has amassed 13340 runs at an average of 40 with 30 centuries

Meanwhile, according to a report in ESPNCricinfo, England batter Tom Kohler-Cadmore has also decided to quit County cricket to play in Pakistan’s top T20 competition for Peshawar Zalmi. The explosive batter is reportedly in talks with his club Somerset in this regard.
