New Delhi: The Big Bash League (BBL) match between Hobart Hurricanes and Brisbane Heat was stopped for a bit when fire broke out near the DJ booth at the Gabba on Saturday, January 16.

The incident happened just after the end of the fourth over of the Hobart Hurricanes’ innings. The on-field umpire stopped the match as the staff used a fire extinguisher to control the fire. According to broadcaster Fox Sports, several fans in the stadium were removed from the area due to safety concerns.

The DJ area which is situated above one of the scoreboards, was engulfed in smoke, causing a brief delay in the match. The match was stopped for more than five minutes, while emergency procedures were followed to ensure the safety of the fans. No injuries were reported, and the game resumed once the fire was under control.

Hobart Hurricanes beat Brisbane Heat

Hobart Hurricanes defeated Brisbane Heat by five wickets at the Gabba in Brisbane. Heat scored 201 runs in 20 overs after being asked to bat first. Marnus Labuschagne scored 77 runs off 44 balls with the help of two maximums and eight fours and Renshaw also amassed 40 runs off 35 balls with the help of two maximums and three boundaries. Nathan Ellis took three wickets for the Hurricanes.

Chasing the massive target of 202 runs, Caleb Jewell and Mitchell Owen forged an 81-run partnership for the opening wicket. Spencer Johnson removed Owen on 44 runs in the seventh over but Jewell stitched another crucial partnership with Nikhil Chaudhary. Jewell scored 76 runs off 49 balls with nine boundaries and a maximum. With one run needed off the last delivery, Matthew Wade smashed Xavier Bartlett for a maximum to finish the match off in style. Johnson picked up three wickets while Bartlett and Swepson also took one wicket each.
